PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Programs and Services have two primary focuses; to operate an Emergency Response Team to quickly deal with cases of abuse, and to bring awareness and education of elder abuse to the community.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM

As an abusive or potentially abusive situation is identified to a member agency, an ad hoc committee of CRN members is called together to assist the elder adult(s). Those members who have a particular expertise pertinent to the individual details of the case meet within 24 hours to put together a strategy to address the abuse. Sharing the responsibility for cases ensures that a concise, thorough plan is developed and services can be delivered swiftly. Members provide follow up and report back to the full CRN committee about the nature of cases handled.

1-800-264-6671 is answered by trained staff at Victim Crisis Assistance Response Services of Haldimand Norfolk. Elder adults calling the line are supported and referred to appropriate CRN members or the Emergency Response Network quickly.

EDUCATION AND AWARENESS

A Speakers Bureau of trained presenters provides workshops to community groups. Sessions include identifying and defining abuse and neglect, intervention, prevention, and support for the elder person who has been abused. The CRN is committed to organizing an annual education forum especially for older adults as well as an annual forum for community agency staff. In house training for community agency staff is available and can be tailored to the requests and needs of the individual agency whether it be operating in the community or long term care.
